Unique & Beautiful Jewellery

Mr Smiley and Mr Grumpy

These Agate slices are natural, untouched & just as we found them at a wholesaler over 20 years ago!

We happily show our friends Mr ‘Smiley’ who has an ever-present quartz crystal toothy grin, that makes everyone who sees him laugh. His googly eyes with his raw enthusiasm just can’t be beat!

Then we show our friends Mr ‘Grumpy’, they are amazed and often laugh.
My ‘Grumpy’ has a weathered, almost wise face, if it wasn’t for his constant disappointment in life.

A friend recently compared them to an old Australian Children’s show as Mr Squiggle and Blackboard  - “Hurry Up!”

We found the pieces close to each other.
There were tall stacks of agate slices, and as we had the time, we began to sort through them,  we found Mr Smiley first and couldn’t believe our luck. Only a few minutes later did Mr Grumpy appear on the scene, ‘How Deep’ we thought, chuckling all the while.

They have been a source of joy for us for many years!

Birthsign Range 1998 to 2011

I came across my original BirthSign Card printouts and a few bracelets the other day.
A business I developed in 1998.

It was a lovely line to develop, fun, informative and colourful.
Plus we involved many good friends to make and design the pieces, it was a real community effort.

But I was reminded just what was available in 1998 and earlier in gemstones.
Chip, round & tumbled …. and not a lot more!
Yes of course there was other beads and facets, but they were expensive and difficult to source.

Today …. I am amazed at what I can find, appreciate and purchase, so easily.
Faceted & Smooth in Round, Teardrop, Round, Oval, Barrel, Diamond, Briolette …. the list goes on.

But also in glass beads, beautiful colours, hues, shapes. It’s incredible!

So I have spent the last few weeks re-designing and improving the range for 2011.
It’s like visiting an old friend again :)

The NEW range is listed and available on the website now!

Plus I am thrilled to share that WHOLESALE purchases can now be made on the website for all business customers. Create an account with a valid ABN, ask us for activation, to gain access to wholesale prices.

Kind Regards, Helen.

Creativity & Surgery

Welcome to my first blog page. I’d like to share a bit about me, my craft and my business.

I have been creating, crafting and designing most of my life!
I am now 72 years old.

So it was with disappointment that recent surgery for a blocked carotid Artery changed that for me. In the past with medical procedures and the like, I would bounce back fairly quickly. My nursing training, Naturopathic skills and the knowledge of many ‘super’ foods, I would be on the mend fast.

But this one threw me, this one affected me more than I cared to admit!

Why one Artery on one side? It had me puzzled, but then I remembered that when I was young, I had fallen off my bicycle and the handlebar had hit hard in my neck, so scar tissue had obviously made the area susceptible.

So yes, thankfully the surgery was a success, all went well!
I was at home resting & being looked after by my partner.

But I couldn’t be ‘creative’.
I wasn’t able to sit and design the way I did!

I was over the trauma of surgery, feeling better, getting organised.
But it all took time, much longer than I imagined!

It is now 4+ months later that I am starting to feel like my old self.
Playing with beads, gemstone and designs. I have been having fun of late!

Have a look at my New Designs http://www.beadheaven.com.au/new-designs/

So the bottom line I wanted to share with you all just how precious creativity really is. We can all take it for granted,  assume it will always just work or be there when we really need it.

But sometimes, it can leave us for a while, and not just feeling a bit out of sorts, but really just stop working for no reason!

So my advice is surround yourself with good friends, loving family and take time out to recharge. I know you ‘know’ this … but when was the last time you actually did it :)

Also my sisters’ Hive page http://creatingthehive.com/joyceg Joyce is a lover of quilting and has had some of her work published in Australian Craft & Quilting magazine.

Kind Regards, Helen
